2006 Sauvignon Blanc, Dillons Point Vineyards, Giesen Wines Ltd., Marlborough, New Zealand

A spring meadow

Pale yellow in colour with the distinct aroma of gooseberry, citrus fruit, blackcurrant and mango, rounded off with mildly spicy, floral and slightly grassy undertones. Immensely fine with delicate acidity, an intensely fruity zest and a frisky finish.
“A very elegant, exciting Sauvignon Blanc, which the Giesen family harvested three weeks later than usually done in comparable local vineyards. The secret to its terrific quality is the special climate in the micro-region of Dillon’s Point, which lies in the heart of the renowned wine-growing area Marlborough between the Wairau and Opawa Rivers. The vines profit from a long, dry summer and a relatively cool autumn: a slow but concentrated ripening process coupled with a lively freshness and subtle, multi-layered nuances of fruit.”
Alcohol by volume: 12.5%, serving temperature: 10–12°C, best before: 2009.
